BA (Hons) Philosophy

scholar (1)

Initially I started a Degree in Psychology, but I disagreed with the logic which struck me as contradictory in places, with ethical consequences I didn't want to be involved with. Other teachings contradicted my own experience of what can be overcome.

So I switched to philosophy, studying the nature of experience and what it can tell us about the world and universality (other minds). I studied logic, and how to dismantle dogma, and build and trust truth. I studied the awareness of the passage of time, and its impact on human freedom and choice. With this I feel I evolved a healthier and more coherent approach to mental health.

I use this in the therapy I offer with philosophical counselling over specific concepts, and encouragement and empowerment coaching based on the facts of causality and the parameters of ideal versus choice.

I was a Samaritans counsellor throughout my degree, and trained other counsellors. When I became frustrated with not having any advice or lifelines to offer, I sought open-ended advice that the person could fill in themselves without my influence: having found this in hypnotherapy, this is what I now offer.
